There is a threat of rain in the forecast this evening.

Drivers and track organizers at Stateline Speedway are OK with finally having to worry about the weather.

For the past few months, COVID-19 was the thing keeping them off the Kortwright Road third-mile dirt track.

Stateline Speedway is planning its regular six pack of racing and two special races Saturday to open its season nearly two months later than usual due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“It’s raining pretty hard here in Garland,” Stateline Speedway co-owner Jean Scott said Friday evening. “If it’s going to rain hard and screw things up, let’s do it by 2 p.m. so people can make plans to cancel before driving any long distances.”

The RUSH Late Models will compete for $1,500 to the winner in the Bill Law Memorial while the Super Late Models will race for $2,500.

Outlaw E-Mods, RUSH Pro Mods, Pro Stocks and Challengers will also compete. The 2019 Parade of Champions will also take place.

Racing starts at 7 p.m. with pit gates opening at 4 p.m. and grandstands following at 5 p.m.

Adult admission is $15 with seniors and veterans $10. Students (ages 11-17) are $8 while children 10 and under are free. Pit admission is $30.

The concession stands will be open.

Organizers ask the following of those in attendance:

¯ Masks are recommended in the grandstands and any place where social distancing is not possible;

¯ Those in attendance are required to have a mask with them at the track;

¯ Markings on the ground will be spaced far enough apart to ensure social distancing wherever lines form;

¯ There will be hand sanitizing stations throughout the facility;

¯ There is no re-entry if those in attendance choose to leave the facility;

¯ Anybody who feels sick is asked to stay home from the track

“There’s no stress when you go to somebody else’s race track. That’s the best part about going,” said Scott, who has attended races in Bradford and at Eriez Speedway in recent weeks. “We’d love to know exactly what we need to do. … It’s very, very frustrating.”

The track hosted its second Test & Tune Session on Thursday night without spectators in attendance. Drivers and their pit members were required to submit COVID-19 waivers before entering the track. In the pits, 10 feet of distance was required between parked cars and 6 feet of social distancing was required between non-team members.

“There were like 100 people Thursday night,” Scott said. “It was so hot, but it was an easy night. Everything went smoothly.”

Opening night is sponsored by Close Racing Supply of Eldred, Pennsylvania. The Bill Law Memorial purse increased during this week due to Pleasant Valley Contractors, a home improvement business in Delevan.

Stateline Speedway plans to host racing every Saturday through Aug. 29. Highlights include the Don & Jerry Frank Memorial on July 18, Coca-Cola Fan Appreciation/Autograph Night on Aug. 1, the final points night on Aug. 22 and Championship Night on Aug. 29.

“That’s a dream,” Scott said. “We like to get one race in for the fans and the drivers.”
