Senior Day — Gabrielle Hahn

Recognizing our senior athletes from the almost 2020 spring season

Gabrielle Hahn

Today’s senior is Gabrielle Hahn of the Warren track & field team:

Parents: Pamela J. Baxter Hahn and Michael J. Hahn

Spring sport: Track

Events: Sprinter; 100-meter & 200-meter dash, and 400 relay member.

Coaches: Kevin & Elizabeth Dustin

Other sports: Marching band, Swimming

Favorite sports memories: I love swimming, it’s my favorite. My very first high school swim practice was midnight for my freshman year! We would pretend to swim in the snow! Going to states to be a part of the 200 IM relay with Paige McCullough, Lydia Latimer, and Cara Anderson. The overnight hotel stays with Kathy Bimber and Sara Nugent. Meet-day breakfasts! Away meets and getting home so late.

The challenge to put on a tech suit, that is an event all in itself. The swimming districts hotel stays and dinner out on the way home… Yummy! Having my little brother, Derek, on the team with me. Enjoying the games at practice. In track, I am a fish out of water because I fell a lot, but I still enjoyed running. I always love cheering everybody on to do their best.

What is your favorite thing about being involved in sports?: I like the challenge, to set a goal and see if I can achieve it. I also like to exercise. I have made a great friend through swimming also.

What will you miss most about high school sports?: It kept me very busy! I liked my daily workouts with the team. Coaches are helpful and kind, and I hope to be like that, too. Thank you to marching band director Mr. Reinard, color guard instructor Mrs. Danielson, swim coaches Russ and Deanna Beyer, coach Adrienne Barmore, and track coaches Kevin and Elizabeth Dustin, and Mr. Sweet

What has living through this crisis as a high school senior taught you?: Stay strong, stay true to your beliefs, I’m able to do a lot on my own, including work out. I do not have control on what is happening outside, but I can control my schedule and what I do. Wash your hands… all the time. Face masks are the new fashion accessory.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?: An ocean beach might be nice.

Preferred pet: DOGS for sure.

Favorite hobby?: SWIMMING. I also LOVE helping teach kids to swim and life guarding to keep them safe.

Favorite social media platform?: Snapchat and Tik Tok

If you could only have one artist/group on a repeat playlist, who would it be?: ZBB

What is something that people would be surprised to know about you?: I did the entire challenging Confidence course at Camp Southern Ground. It has low and high ropes, a wire walk that challenges your mental focus and strength.

What is the best piece of advice that someone has given you?: Carol Torrance said: “Smell the flower, and blow the candle out.”

I always think of this when I am anxious or nervous; it helps to calm me and remind me to take a deep breath and exhale. Everything will be ok.

Plans after graduation: To attend college in Mercyhurst North East with a focus on Culinary.

Message to underclassmen: Being honest and kind is more important than anything else.
