Senior Day — Caden Smead

Caden Smead

Today’s senior is Caden Smead of the Sheffield track and field team:

Parents: Tony and Shelley Smead

Spring sport: Track

Events: 400, 4X100, Long Jump, Triple Jump.

Coach: Julie Finch

Other sports: Football and wrestling.

Favorite sports memories: Track bus with Cale and Matt D. Being selected for the D9 AML all-star team in football. Also, being selected to play in the Varischetti all-star and Big 30 all-star games.

What is your favorite thing about being involved in sports?: Competing against others and building bonds with other competitors.

What will you miss most about high school sports?: Competing and hanging out with friends.

What has living through this crisis as a high school senior taught you?: Not to take things for granted and to play and do every sport like it’s your last time.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?: Hawaii

Any pets?: Three dogs, Jackson, Maggie, and Stella.

Favorite hobby?: Hanging out with friends and playing sports.

Favorite social media platform?: Snapchat

If you could only have one artist/group on a playlist, who would it be?: Kanye West.

What is something that people would be surprised to know about you?: I’m bald now.

What is the best piece of advice that someone has given you?: If I have to ask myself, “will I get into trouble doing this,” then I shouldn’t be doing it.

Name someone who has inspired you: Randy Moss, because I feel like he is one of the greatest wide receivers ever.

Coach’s comment: Caden is a heartbreak of what could of been for this track season. As a junior, he decided halfway through the season to run the 400m race and he was a natural and easily qualified for districts. We had such high hopes for him this year. I watched him run during football season and saw how fast he had gotten and knew he had been training off-season. He could easily have been a state-qualifier this year.
