Recognizing our senior athletes from the almost 2020 spring season

The pomp and circumstance of it all.

Graduations, proms, memories from the final days of high school — These are some of the things our seniors in Warren County School District are being forced to miss due to the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent closures.

Oh, they still have their futures ahead of them, but we’re not letting the senior athletes leave that quietly. Various school or team Facebook pages are giving them some just due, and businesses and organizations are making posters and signs.

In lieu of a real senior day, the Times Observer is recognizing each and every senior athlete with our own “Senior Day.”

“We will run them on the sports pages daily as they come in,” said Managing Editor Jon Sitler.

Our second senior is Lex Nyquist of the Warren softball team:

Favorite sports memories: The entire 2018 volleyball season, going to the D10 championship twice for softball, being mid-fielders with my best friend, Julia, and sharing what I love most with my favorite people.

What is your favorite thing about being involved in sports?

The amazing friendships you make, and all of the learning experiences that come from sports.

What will you miss most about high school sports?

I will miss the competition from the rivalries and being able to spend every day with my best friends.

What has living through this crisis as a high school senior taught you?

You need to find ways to continue bettering yourself, no matter the circumstances.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

The Maldives.

What is something that people would be surprised to know about you?

I am a second degree black belt in Shotokan karate.

What is the best piece of advice that someone has given you?

Be kind, be confident, work hard.

Plans after graduation: My plans after graduation are to attend Bloomsburg University where I will be majoring in Nursing, and playing volleyball.

After going through graduate school to become a nurse practitioner, I hope to one day open my own private practice.

Eventually, I will get married, and start a happy, healthy family.

Message to underclassmen: Work hard and be passionate about everything that you do.
