Sheffield’s Finch second at D-9 championships
CLEARFIELD, Pa. – While he didn’t repeat as a District 9 champion, Sheffield’s Ethan Finch is heading back to the Northwest Regional, and another trip to states is clearly within his sights.
After winning his first two matches on Friday at 182, Finch (27-8) was setup with a semifinal showdown against Brookville’s Elliot Park (24-12). The two were locked in a tight battle in the third period, when Finch was able to put Park on his back and secure a pin at the 5:09 mark.
That landed him a spot in the finals against unbeaten Kane senior Cameron Whisner (32-0). Finch held his own, but ultimately it was Whisner who kept his perfect record intact with a 5-2 decision.
Whisner, Finch, Park and Johnsonburg’s Tyler Watts will represent D-9 at 182 at the Northwest Regional in Sharon.
Finch will receive a first-round bye on Friday and will await the winner of Commodore Perry’s Domanic Leonard (26-11) and Jamestown’s Hunter Cowher (29-13) in the quarterfinals.
