Lady Knights battle past Union City in home finale

In their final home game of the season, the Eisenhower Lady Knights turned in a strong performance from start to finish in a 47-39 Region 2 victory over Union City on Saturday.

Lilee Renninger had a monster first half and Emiley Wheeler came back from a thumb injury early in the game to finish with a team-high 17 points.

“Lilee Renninger really kept us in the game early,” said Eisenhower coach Mike Logue.

Renninger had six points, five blocks and 10 rebounds in the first half as the Lady Knights built a 26-14 halftime lead.

Delaney Chase made a layup in the closing moments of the first quarter, by Union City’s Eliza Reynolds, who finished with a game-high 22 points, nailed a shot from beyond halfcourt at the first-quarter buzzer to make it 10-6.

At the end of the second quarter, Bella Marino fired a three-quarter court pass to Renninger, who laid it in at the horn to give EHS its 12-point cushion.

The Lady Knights an 18-point lead in the third quarter, but Reynolds and Union City came clawing back.

Reynolds made two 3’s in the final quarter and Jessica Messenger another, but Wheeler helped thwart any comeback attempt, with her late layup sealing the win.

Three Lady Knights – Wheeler (12), Renninger (14) and Alexis Courtney (10) finished with double-digit rebounds. Marino dished out four assists and Chase three, while Leah Peterson had three steals.

EHS wraps up its season tonight, traveling to Erie to take on Iroquois.
