Ike pins Seneca; Dragons fall

WATTSBURG, Pa. – Eisenhower wrestling decked Seneca in their regular season finale Thursday, 63-18.

The Knights won the first four matches of the night, three via fall, en route to the win.

“I thought we started off pretty aggressive tonight,” said Eisenhower coach Kris Black. “Logan (Jaquay) got slowed down for a little bit but came on strong. We’ve had a great week of practice. The guys are in stride with where we want to be right now. The match tonight showed that. We scored a lot of first takedowns.”

Jaquay, Easton Hedman and Gannon Jaquay all won via pin, while Josh Bortz earned a 5-3 decision to open the match.

“Gannon Jaquay wrestled a really good match against a solid kid,” coach Black said. “He controlled the match from the start and looked good.”

The Knights went on to earn three more victories via fall – Mikael Beaver (170), Josh Parker (195), Cael Black (220) and Anthony Rivera (106).

“A lot of the guys, even when they put themselves in not good positions, fought their way out of that. We had three or four places where we were down and got wins.

“Mikael Beaver did a really good job in his match. he got thrown on his back, fought his way off and came back and pinned the kid at the end. After a super-emotional match on Tuesday, they did a real nice job of coming back and wrestling strong.”

With the regular season complete, the Knights now turn their attention to the individual postseason, beginning with the Section I tournament next Friday.

“We’ll try to build their intensity but at the same time make sure their legs are as fresh as they can be and that they are as healthy as possible,” Black said. “We preach ‘survive’ this time of year. Do enough to move on in each tournament.”
