Warren’s Zack Zinger took second place at 170 pounds in the District 10 Class 3A championships on Thursday at Meadville High School. Zinger was one of nine Dragons to advance to next weekends Northwest Regional at the Altoona Fieldhouse.

MEADVILLE, Pa. – A total of nine Warren Dragons will be moving on to the Northwest Pennsylvania Regional following their performances at the District 10 championships on Thursday at Meadville.

While the Dragons didn’t have an individual champion, they did have four second-place finishers – Joey Arnold, Ryan Madigan, Alex Anderson, Zack Zinger, and five others – Kyle Swick, Jake Hayes and Josh Letko, Brandon Daugharthy and Luke Becker earned third-place finishes to advance to Altoona next weekend.

In the semifinals, Madigan (126) earned an 11-6 decision over McDowell’s Nate Digello, Anderson (145) pinned Meadville’s Isaac Chapman in 2:15, Arnold (160) tech falled McDowell’s Tyler Posten, 16-0, and Zinger (170) earned a 15-6 major decision over Cathedral Prep’s Owen Shetler.

Arnold (27-4) wrestled a terrific final against Cathedral Prep’s Kelyn Blossey (26-11). They were tied 2-2 late in the third period when Blossey was able to get a late escape point for the title.

Anderson (17-11) was pinned by Prep’s Paniro Johnson (33-2), an Iowa State recruit, while Madigan (23-6) and Zinger (21-6) also lost by fall in their respective title bouts.

After losing in the semifinals, Swick (152), Hayes (220) and Letko (113) all came back to win their third-place matches, earning their trip to Altoona in the process.

The freshman Letko needed just 54 seconds to pin McDowell’s Dylan Moorey. Swick, meanwhile, earned a 6-0 decision over Erie High’s Jesse Post and Hayes pinned McDowell’s Roman Meola in 4:05.

Daugharthy (182) and Becker (195) both lost their semifinal matches, but automatically moved on with just three wrestlers in their respective weight classes.

The Northwest Regional will take place at the Altoona Fieldhouse next Friday and Saturday.
