Fehlman wins Edinboro Open title

EDINBORO, Pa. – DJ Fehlman (Warren, Pa./Warren) went 4-0 and claimed the 133-pound title to lead the way for the Lock Haven University wrestling team at today’s (Sat, Feb. 1) Edinboro Open. Competing unattached at 157, Jonathan Ross (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) was second overall.

The Bald Eagles added the Edinboro Open tournament to the schedule earlier this week and several LHU wrestlers made the trip to hit the mats today, competing both attached, and unattached.

Brock Port (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) was fourth at 149, Austin Bell (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) placed fourth at 165 and Parker McClellan (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) finished fourth at 197.

Fehlman, nationally ranked No. 28, went 4-0 on the way to his title at 133. He opened the day with a major and a tech fall, before winning his semifinal-bout, 5-3. In the finals, Fehlman edged Maryland’s Orion Anderson, 1-0, for the championship.

Ross was 4-1 overall and placed second at 157. He had one pin on the day and fell to Michigan State’s Nathan Atienza in the finals.

The Bald Eagles will hit the mats on Thursday, February 6 when they host Edinboro University in a Mid-American Conference (MAC) Eastern Division dual at 7 p.m. On Friday, February 7, Lock Haven will host Rider in MAC East action at 7 p.m.
