Eisenhower grad Barnett leads Behrend at PSUAC Invite

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. – Freshman Alex Barnett (Warren, PA/Eisenhower) was the lone wrestler to place at the PSUAC Invitational held at Penn State Fayette on Sunday afternoon.

Key Moments:

Barnett posted a 5-1 record at the 165-weight class to finish third overall. He had two wins by decision, two by default and another by pin. Barnett defeated Michael Standish from Fayette 8-7 in the third-place bout.

Junior Brandon Miller (Hermitage, PA/Hickory) tallied a pair of wins at 174. Miller posted a 9-6 decision in the championship bracket and then a 12-4 major decision in the consolation rounds.

Freshman Brian Himes (Brookville Pa./Brookville) earned his first collegiate win at 184. Himes pinned Colby Mattice from Mont Alto in 1:49 in the consolation bracket

Behrend returns to action on Friday and Saturday at the NCAA Southeast Regionals held at Messiah College.

Lobdell receives

weekly pitching honor

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Following her performance in Arizona over the weekend, California University of Pennsylvania freshman Ellie Lobdell (Warren, Pa./Warren) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Lobdell posted a 1-1 record and a 1.15 ERA while at the Cactus Classic in Tucson, Arizona, over the weekend. She logged a team-leading 18.1 inning pitched in four appearances, including two starts.

In her college debut, Lobdell yielded two runs (one earned) on three hits and recorded five strikeouts in 5.1 innings of relief against Texas Permian Basin on Friday. The Warren product earned a complete-game victory the following day in her first career start, allowing three runs (one earned) over 7.0 innings in a 5-3 victory over Western New Mexico. Lobdell surrendered two runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks in 6.0 innings against Eastern New Mexico on Sunday.

This marks the initial weekly awards from the conference this season.

The Vulcans remain idle for nearly three weeks before playing 10 games from March 7-12 at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.
