Youngsville gets big bounce back win at Maplewood
GUYS MILLS, Pa. — Youngsville bounced back from a tough loss against region leader Cambridge Springs Friday with a dominating, 63-28, Region 3 win at Maplewood Tuesday.
The Eagles held the Tigers to just two field goals through the second and third quarters, combined. Offensively, Youngsville had four players in double figures scoring.
“We bounced back with a road win and a nice defensive performance,” Youngsville coach Jesse DeLoof said.
Youngsville (14-4 overall, 7-2 Region 3) led by just three, 11-8, at the end of the first quarter, but a balanced offensive attack and stingy defense allowed the Eagles to outscore the Tigers (7-11, 4-5) 19-3 in the second for a 30-11 halftime advantage.
The Eagles started the second half the way they ended the first, outscoring their hosts, 19-5, in the third quarter. The Tigers managed to get a bit of offense going in the fourth, but the Eagles matched and rolled to the win.
Happy to be back on the winning track, DeLoof knows his team can’t sit on its laurels now.
“It’s back to work tomorrow,” he said.
Youngsville gets a break from region play for a highly anticipated cross-county matchup. The Eagles head to the Joseph A. Massa Gymnasium Saturday for a non-region contest with Warren. Originally scheduled for a mid-afternoon tip, Saturday’s game with the Dragons has been moved to prime time. The junior varsity game will tip at 6 p.m. with varsity to follow.
