Wolverines claw past Bears

Coming off a close loss to county rival Eisenhower on Thursday, the Sheffield boys came back with an impressive 56-48 victory over Union City on Saturday.

Trailing by 13 points after the first quarter, the Wolverines (2-10) outscored the Bears 14-2 to get back within one at halftime.

Tony Richards scored eight of his ten points in the third quarter and Tyler Hepinger seven of his 21 as the Wolverines took the lead.

“Tony Richards hit two big 3’s in the third,” noted Sheffield coach Mike Knapp.

Walker Kyler and Alex Benjamin hit a pair of critical shots in the fourth quarter as the Wolverines held off a late Bears (6-7) rally.

“Big fourth-quarter buckets from those two seniors,” Knapp said.
