Lady Dragons dominate DuBois

DUBOIS, Pa. – The Warren Lady Dragons won for the sixth time in their last seven games on Saturday, traveling to DuBois and leading from start to finish in a 53-32 triumph.

In a boys-girls doubleheader, it Emma Ruhlman and Riley Childress scored a combined 15 points in the first quarter as Warren (8-4) jumped out to a 17-8 lead.

“DuBois is younger like we are,” said Warren coach Lisa Lavan. “Coming off a big game on Thursday and not practice on Friday, I was really proud of the girls.”

The tone, really was set the game before.

“Our JV played hard,” LaVan said. “They didn’t win, but they got after it and that really set the tone.”

DuBois (5-5) gave the Lady Dragons some different defensive looks, including a box-and-1 on Ruhlman in the third quarter. They responded, as Teagan Paris scored five of her 11 points in the third and Taylor Childress knocked down a 3 to extend the lead.

“The girls responded to it and they (DuBois got out of it pretty quick,” LaVan said.

Ruhlman led the way with 18 points and 7 rebounds, while Riley Childress had 12 points and six assists and Paris 11 points and seven boards.

Saige Weible led DuBois with 12 points.

“The girls thought it was really neat that it was a boy-girl doubleheader,” noted LaVan. “They really enjoyed cheering on the boys.

The JV squad lost a tough battle, 32-22. Carly Beers had eight points, while Gracie Gatto added six, Miken Beers five and Cara Munksgard three.

They return to action today, hosting Villa. Last season, the Victors came into Warren and were handed their first District 10 regular-season loss in nearly four years, a game in which Margo Loutzenhiser, who now plays for Gannon, set the program’s all-time scoring record.
