Knights fall to Blue Devils

Eisenhower freshman Bella Marino brings the ball up the floor.
Cambridge Springs got out to a 24-7 lead in the first quarter on their way to a 65-33 win over Eisenhower on Saturday.
“They’re a very fast team and that hurt us,” said Eisenhower coach Mike Logue. “We had trouble getting back against their fastbreak early. (Ashton) Hoover is by far the best player we’ve played against this year. She’s a good player. She can shoot the 3, she can drive and they run a lot of things through her. You have to guard her on the perimeter and play her in the post.”
Eisenhower (3-9 overall, 2-6 Region 2), which took Iroquois to the brink on Thursday, couldn’t quite get rolling in this one, despite another strong game from Emiley Wheeler, who finished with a team-high 12 points. They did, however, bounce back to outscore Cambridge 13-12 in the second quarter.
“One of the great things about this team this year, they fight,” Logue said. “They don’t like to give in. In the second quarter we came out and did some things. They were really working to deny Wheeler, doing some things to stop her from getting the ball. She’s drawing the double team, which means she has teammates open and she was able to find them. She’s understood that.”
To Logue’s point, Wheeler finished with five assists, while Lilee Renninger had five rebounds, Leah Peterson five assists and three steals and Delaney Chase five rebounds.
He is also pleased at his team’s continued improvement on defense.
“I’m really pleased with our team defense,” he said. “We’re getting much better with our help side and on the ball. We drew three charges on Saturday. Bella Marino took two and Renninger one.”
The Lady Knights are right back at it today, hosting Saegertown.
