Hahn has 10 points in first start for Cal

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 20 California University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team scored over 20 second-chance points on Wednesday evening while earning a 67-58 victory at Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.

With the win, the Vulcans improve to 13-3 overall with a 7-3 mark in league play. Cal U snapped a two-game road losing streak in the series with Seton Hill, as the teams are now tied for third in the divisional standings. Meanwhile, the Griffins fall to 12-3 this season behind a 7-3 record in conference action.

Senior Monica Burns (New Stanton, Pa./Hempfield) recorded her first collegiate double-double with team highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds (four offensive). She made three-of-six from beyond the arc and eight-of-eight from the charity stripe while playing all 40 minutes. Burns is averaging 19.6 points while shooting 91.8 percent (31-of-34) from the free-throw line over her last five games.

Junior Bianca Jasper (Middletown, Pa./Middetown) finished with 12 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals while playing off the bench for the first time in two-plus months. Senior DJ Hahn (Warren, Pa./Warren) tallied 10 points and five rebounds in her initial start of the year, while sophomore Lauren Bennett (Buckhannon, W.Va./Buckhannon-Upshur) set a career high with five steals and added six points and four rebounds while making her first start of the season.

Hahn scored the opening two baskets of the game before the Griffins mounted a 15-2 run to hold a 15-6 lead with 3:49 left in the first quarter. Cal U closed the quarter on a 10-4 rally behind six points by Burns to trim the deficit to 19-16. The teams traded points for the majority of the second quarter with the Vulcans eventually tying the score at 30-30 on a jumper by Hahn with 4:04 remaining before the break. Cal U held Seton Hill without a field goal for the final 5:21 of the second quarter and entered halftime with a 41-33 lead behind an 11-1 run over the final three minutes.

Cal U continues its road trip on Saturday, Jan. 18, when it travels to face two-time, defending-Atlantic Region Champion and No. 8 IUP at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex with tip set for 5:30 p.m.
