Eisenhower, Sheffield girls take tough road losses

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS, Pa. — For as hot a shooting performance as the Eisenhower girls basketball team had at home Monday, they were just as cold at Cambridge Springs Tuesday.

The Lady Knights grabbed an early lead, but couldn’t sustain it as the Blue Devils went on a run and sealed the game away for a 67-24 Region 2 win.

“We actually were winning in the first quarter for a while,” Eisenhower coach Mike Logue said. “They came back and took the lead on a couple foul shots to make it 9-6, then, just like that, it was 16-6.”

Cambridge Springs (14-3 overall, 11-1 Region 2) closed the first quarter with a 21-6 advantage, then outscored Eisenhower (4-12, 3-9) 23-9 in the second quarter for a 44-15 halftime lead.

“We kind of got our heads down a little bit and didn’t play as aggressively as we had in the past,” Logue said. “They played a 2-3 zone and as hot as we were last night, we were just as cold tonight. We got shots. We can’t complain we didn’t get shots.”

Ashton Hoover had a game-high 23 points for the Blue Devils. Rachel Swanson added 14 and Brooke Myers nine.

Emiley Wheeler and Delaney Chase led the Knights with seven points each. Wheeler pulled down five rebounds and had three steals. Leah Peterson dished out a pair of assists.

Eisenhower travels to Titusville Saturday for a makeup from the game scheduled for Jan. 18. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
