Eisenhower girls race to Region 2 victory over Union City

UNION CITY, Pa. –Eisenhower outscored Union City 16-3 in the second quarter to pick up a key, 53-34, Region 2 road win Thursday.

The Lady Knights used transition offense to build the lead and created turnovers defensively to limit the Bears.

“We started to get a couple rebounds and pushing the ball,” Eisenhower coach Mike Logue said. “It was total team defense. We just shut them down, created turnovers and scored points.”

Leah Peterson and Emiley Wheeler scored 14 of the 16 Eisenhower (3-7 overall, 2-4 Region 2) points in the quarter.

“Those two just took over,” Logue said.

Wheeler turned a slow start offensively, just 2-7 from the field, into another monster game for the Knights. She finished 11-22 from the floor with 26 points.

“We used her to break the press and she scored some layups,” Logue said.

Defensively, Angeles Jareno limited Union City’s (2-9, 0-6) leading 3-point shooter, Eliza Reynolds, without a 3-point basket.

“It was another good defensive night from her,” Logue said. “She made Reynolds earn her points and hasn’t allowed any 3-pointers in region play.”

Wheeler had 11 rebounds and three blocks. Peterson and Delaney Chase finished with eight points each and Peterson and Lily Renninger each had three steals.

Eisenhower hosts Iroquois Thursday.
