ERIE, Pa. – As far as road wins go, this was a big one.

At McDowell on Thursday, the Warren Dragon wrestlers battled to the final weight class, with Ryan Madigan getting a third-period pin at 132 to cap off a 36-31 Region 5 victory.

“Very pleased with tonight’s results,” said Warren coach Paul Streich. “The boys are improving every day in the practice room and taking those learned skills to our opponents.”

The Dragons got five pins on the evening, courtesy of Joey Arnold (160), Zack Zinger (170), Jake Hayes (220), Tristan Dolan (285) and the aforementioned Madigan.

The Dragons had a few days off after seven matches in two days last Friday and Saturday.

Jamo Douvlos made his return from a minor injury to earn a 9-2 decision, while Kyle Swick also earned a hard-fought 9-5 decision against the Trojans’ Ryan Horn.

The coaches were also quick to point out the importance of Dragons like Alex Anderson and Donovan Fiscus, who kept McDowell from getting valuable bonus points.

It was great to get five pins from guys who show up and work hard consistently,” Streich said. “Donovan Fiscus and Alex Anderson, despite loses, helped the team greatly tonight by limiting the bonus points. Kyle Swick and Jamo Douvlos had great matches nearly getting us bonus points as well.

“We were also able to get five exhibition matches and gain valuable experience. We are excited to get back to work and hone our skills before another important region match next Wednesday against Erie High. Hope to see a big home crowd.”
