The Trojans defeated the Dragons, 102-61, while the Lady Trojans topped the Lady Dragons, 110-60. The Dragons had just seven event winners between the two teams.

“They’re a big school and they have a lot of talent,” Warren coach Russ Beyer said. “They beat Villa this year. We knew going in they’re a good squad and we would have to just put all that to the side and swim our races.”

Connor Fehlman had an exciting win in the 400 freestyle. Fehlman and McDowell’s Evan Teeter were running neck and neck for the duration of the race. Fehlman started to get some separation as he approached the final turn and kicked it in late in the last length to come in a second ahead of Teeter. He picked up the win and qualified for districts.

“He’s never swam it before,” Beyer said. “At the end, I asked him if he liked it and he said it was fun. I told him he swam it just like he needed to. I’m happy for him.”

Nick Gorton got the other individual win for the boys in the 100 breaststroke, and the 400 free relay team of Tommy Rice, Max Harrison, Graham Carr and Derek Hahn took first as well.

“Nick Gorton has probably dropped about 10 to 12 seconds in the last three or four meets in the 100 breaststroke,” Beyer said.

Katie Beyer outlasted Jordan Nuzback by 0.19 in the 100 free. Beyer took first in the 200 free and was part of the winning 400 free relay team, along with Grace Pennucci, Rylie Yeager and Eva Turner.

Paige Johnson fought through injury to take the top spot in the 100 breaststroke.

“She’s been battling some back tightness,” Beyer said. “But she had some good times even with a bit of tightness.”
