Look ahead: County teams tip-off season on Friday
The winter sports season officially gets underway this weekend, and nearly every Warren County basketball team will be hosting, or participating in, a tip-off tournament.
Eisenhower’s teams are the exceptions. The Lady Knights open the season at Otto-Eldred Friday, while the boys are off this weekend.
The annual Sheffield Sports Boosters Tip-Off Tournament gets underway Friday afternoon. The Youngsville girls open play with a semifinal game against Mercer at 4 p.m. Jamestown and Port Allegany boys follow at 5:30 p.m. The Sheffield girls play Port Allegany at 7 p.m., while the boys take on North Clarion at 8:30 p.m.
The tournament concludes on Saturday with the girls consolation at 3 p.m. and the boys consolation at 4:30 p.m.
The girls championship tips off at 6 p.m. and the boys championship at 7:30 p.m.
The 7th annual Lady Dragon Tip-Off Tournament begins with junior varsity at 3:30 p.m. Friday with Warren hosting Salamanca (NY). Mercyhurst Prep and Maplewood JVs follow at 5 p.m. Varsity action begins at 6:30 p.m. with the Lakers and Tigers. Warren and Salamanca (NY) varsity tips at 8 p.m.
Junior varsity consolation tips at 3 p.m. Saturday, with the JV championship set for 4:30 p.m. Varsity consolation is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the championship game set for 7:30 p.m.
The rest of the Warren County teams will open their seasons in District 9 territory.
Warren’s boys head to the Brookville Tip-Off Tournament.
The Dragons open against Brockway at 4:30 p.m., with Brookville and St. Joe’s Prep squaring off in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m. Saturday’s consolation game tips at 3:30 p.m. with the championship scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Youngsville’s boys travel to Redbank Valley for the Bulldogs’ Tip-Off Tournament, the JV team plays Redbank at 6 p.m. Friday, while the varsity teams play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday’s JV consolation and championship each tip at 4:30 p.m., with the consolation in the auxiliary gym and the championship in the main gym. The varsity consolation is set for 6 p.m. and the championship at 7:30 p.m., each in the main gym.
Tidioute Charter’s boys and girls teams will participate in the Forest Tip-Off Tournament. A full list of teams was not available at press time, but the girls were scheduled to play at 3:30 p.m. Friday, while the boys were set to tip at 5 p.m.
