EDINBORO, Pa. –For the second time this week, the Warren boys watched a fourth quarter lead slip away.

Titusville ended Tuesday’s game at Warren with an 8-2 run to come away with a 58-53 win. The Dragons led by seven at General McLane Friday, but Eric Mathews completed a 3-point play with seconds remaining to give the Lancers a 52-50, Region 6 win.

After opening the season by winning the Brookville Tip-Off Tournament, Warren has now lost four straight to fall to 2-4 on the year.

“Some of it is experience,” Warren coach Jeff Berdine said. “This is the first time some of these guys have been in tight games that mattered.”

Warren (2-4 overall, 0-2 Region 6) was up 50-43 with a minute left and had three straight 1-and-1 opportunities the Dragons didn’t cash in on. Warren also committed a turnover on an inbounds play late in the quarter.

“We had five opportunities to make a play,” Berdine said. “We needed one of those five plays to be made and we couldn’t get one to go our way. We gave them a Christmas present after playing pretty well. But when you have a seven point lead with seconds left, we need someone to step up. You can play as well as you want, but if you don’t do the little things and pay attention to detail, it’s going to bite you at crunch time.”

Eli Bruce had a game-high 21 points for the Lancers (4-1, 1-1). Mathews had 12 points, including the game-winner.

Ben Berdine had 20 points and five rebounds for the Dragons. Payton Barnes added 13 points and five rebounds, while Thomas Bablak had nine points, five rebounds and five assists and Mitch Grosch had three points and four steals.

The Dragons will have some time to make corrections as they are off until Dec. 28 when Warren hosts Bradford.
