From left, Warren’s Carly Beers (6th man award), Riley Childress (all-tournament team) and Emma Ruhlman (tournament MVP).
“She’s a tough kid,” LaVan said of Beers. “Really excited for her to get the 6th man award. She gives us good minutes and played very well on Saturday.”
Defensively, Taylor and Riley Childress were excellent.
How good?
Maplewood’s leading scorer, Jordan Roser (13.3 ppg.) and Isabella Eimer (12.4), their third-leading scorer were both held scoreless, thanks in large part to the Childress sisters.
“The Childress sisters, man were they impressive on 13 (Eimer) and 24 (Roser),” LaVan said.
Ruhlman had 10 boards in what was yet another double-double effort, while Riley Childress grabbed seven caroms.
Tegan Paris also did strong work underneath both defensively and rebounding.
“Teagan is on the brink of a breakthrough offensively,” LaVan said. “She’s been boxing out really well and playing great defense and I know the offense is going to come, too.”
Sadie Thomas had 12 points to lead Maplewood (8-2) and Megan Mangus added 10.
Now 5-3 on the season and winners of three straight, the Lady Dragons return to action on Saturday at Mercyhurst Prep.
“We’re really coming together as a team,” LaVan said.
