Knights claim 4 champions at STWOA, Dragons finish 4th

SALAMANCA, N.Y. – It was a big weekend for Warren County wrestlers at the Southern Tier Wrestling Officials Association Holiday Classic Tournament.

Eisenhower’s Logan Jaquay, Easton Hedman, Josh Bortz and Cael Black all claimed individual titles, while the Warren Dragons finished fourth and Eisenhower fifth in the team standings.

Jaquay earned a 6-0 decision over Port Allegany’s Braedon Johnson in their 126-pound final, while Hedman got a hard-fought 8-6 decision against Maple Grove’s Luke Tomlinson for the crown at 138.

At 145, Josh Bortz was dominant in getting a 16-2 major decision over Gowanda’s Dominik Rodriguez, while Black edged Port Allegany’s Justin Young in the 220-pound final, 4-2.

Warren’s Joey Arnold, meanwhile, advanced to the finals at 160 before dropping a 7-3 decision to Olean’s Gavin Kulp.

Earning third-place finishes were Ryan Madigan (Warren, 132), Alex Anderson (Warren, 138), and Jake DeSimone (Youngsville, 285).

Anderson came back to earn a 12-0 major decision over Eisenhower’s Gannon Jaquay on Saturday. Jaquay had edged Anderson 3-0 in the quarterfinals.

At 285, DeSimone earned consecutive pins, including over Eisenhower’s Jesse Gourley, to take third.
