SHARON, Pa. – Trailing by one at halftime, the Warren Lady Dragons pulled away from a talented Farrell team, 60-51, in the opening game of the Sharon Holiday Tournament on Friday.

The Lady Dragons (4-3) once against got big games from Emma Ruhlman and Riley Childress, as well as Taylor Childress. The Warren senior scored a season-high 15 points, 11 of which came in the second half.

“I’m very proud of Taylor, she really stepped up when they (Farrell) tried to shut down Emma and Riley,” said coach Lisa LaVan.

Senior guard Kyra Crosby kept Farrell (4-2) in it with a team-high 18 points, while the Lady Dragons also had to contend with 6-1 sophomore Jaylie Green.

“They’re young, very athletic and love to drive to the hoop,” LaVan said. “Their 6-footer is a good post and we really had to battle her.”

The Childress sisters both drained 3’s in the third quarter and Ruhlman had seven points in the frame to help them get the lead.

LaVan once again praised the work of her young players who stepped up.

“Cara (Munksgard), Carly (Beers) and Ella (Ordiway) gave us some really good minutes tonight,” she said.

Teagan Paris finished with seven points and LaVan once again praised her work boxing out. Ruhlman had eight boards and Riley Childress six assists and five steals.

“This was a good team win; I’m proud of them,” LaVan said.

The Lady Dragons will meet 8-1 Maplewood, a 60-34 winner over Sharon, in the championship game today.
