Eagles fall to Region 3 powerhouse Cambridge Springs
CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS, Pa. – Region 3 favorite Cambridge Springs used a big second quarter to pull away from Youngsville, 51-30 on Thursday.
The Blue Devils (4-2 overall, 1-0 Region 3) led by just two, 16-14 at the end of the first quarter, but a 17-4 run in the second allowed them to take a 15-point advantage into halftime, a lead which they were able to maintain.
“The effort was there, we simply got beat on the boards,” said Youngsville coach Jesse DeLoof. “The guys executed offensively, except for a couple stretches, specifically in the second quarter. We have to be able to knock down more open looks at our place if we want to defeat the region favorite.”
Trent Wheeler, a 6-4 junior, led three Cambridge Springs players in double figures with 14 points.
Gage Hendrickson had a game-high 15 points to pace Youngsville (3-3, 1-1).
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, hosting District 9 foe DuBois Central Catholic.
“Back to work tomorrow,” DeLoof said. “We’ll be ready on Saturday.”
