Eagles fall in RBV tourney title game

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Youngsville led at the half, but a big second half from West Shamokin lifted the Wolves to a 59-45 win in the championship game of the Redbank Valley Tip-Off Tournament Saturday evening.

The Wolves’ Trevor Smulik was a 1-man wrecking crew, drilling six 3’s en route to a game-high 29 points. No other West Shamokin playes was in double figures.

As a team, the Wolves, a 60-43 winner over Slippery Rock on Friday, made nine 3’s in the contest.

Gage Hendrickson had another strong game for the Eagles, who led 28-26 at halftime. The senior forward poured in 16 points.

Timber Bower and Joe Mack had nine points apiece for the Eagles (1-1), while Ethan Kesterholt chipped in with seven.

“They made plays down the stretch and executed down the stretch,” said Youngsville coach Jesse DeLoof. “Credit to them. We had a winning effort, but missed some opportunities.”

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, hosting Oil City.

“We will benefit from this and continue to improve,” DeLoof said. “Back to work on Monday!”
