Eagles’ defense puts the clamps on DCC

Youngsville overwhelmed DuBois Central Catholic on Saturday, turning in a dominant defensive effort on its way to a 50-26 victory.

Coach Jesse DeLoof praised the effort of his defense, which gave up just 15 points over the final three quarters.

“The defense was at a high-level today,” he said. “We said we will be as good this year as we are on the defensive end and I’m excited about where it is and how good it can be.”

The Eagles struggled early offensively but were able to slowly get it going.

Timber Bower scored all 11 of his points in the first half and was as big a reason as any why the Eagles (4-3) were able to build a 15-point halftime lead.

“He made shots early when we were really struggling to put the ball through the hoop,” noted DeLoof.

The Eagles continued to pour it on in the third quarter, extending the lead over 20.

Brady Olewine continued his strong offensive play, pouring in a game-high 14 points. Gage Hendrickson matched Bower with 11.

The Eagles welcome Maplewood on Monday for a big Region 3 contest.

“We will enjoy this win and be ready for Monday,” DeLoof said.
