Wolverines fall to Elk County Catholic

Sheffield's Walker Kyler

Aujamier Slappy-Washington threw a pair of first-half touchdown passes to Caden Smead and Mirhan Price, but it wasn’t nearly enough, as Elk County Catholic knocked off the Wolverines, 57-14 on Saturday on Wolverine Mountain.

Elk County Catholic’s (4-3) offense was in full gear from the get-go. Quarterback Mason McAllister threw three touchdowns passes, two of which went to John Wittman, who also had a rushing touchdown.

The Crusaders got production from a number of different players, however. Sam Kaul went over 100 yards on the ground, toting the ball 16 times for 149 yards, while Leo Gregory (3carries, 49 yards) had a pair of scores on the ground.

For Sheffield (2-6), Slappy-Washington was 14-of-36 through the air for 226 yards and the scoring strikes to Smead and Price. Smead finished the game with four receptions for 67 yards.

All of the Wolverines offense came via the passing game, as the Crusaders held them to negative yardage on the ground.

The Wolverines wrap up the 2019 season Friday when they travel to Duke Center to take on Otto-Eldred (1-6).
