Bound for states

Eisenhower junior Ethan Kellogg finished 13th in the District 10 Class 1A cross country championships on Saturday at Sharon’s Buhl Park, qualifying him for the state championships next weekend in Hershey.
SHARON, Pa. – It was a banner day for Warren County at the District 10 cross country championships at Sharon’s Buhl Park on Saturday.
Three runners – Warren’s Katie Beyer and Naomi Hahn, as well as Eisenhower’s Ethan Kellogg, punched their ticket to the state championships next Saturday at Hershey. Each finished in the top ten runners who weren’t from the state qualifying teams (they all automatically qualify).
Beyer (19:54) finished 7th in the Class 2A girls race and Hahn 9th (20:05), while Kellogg (17:30) was 13th in the Class A boys race.
For the senior Hahn, this marks a milestone, as she has now qualified for states all four years. She medaled last season with a 21st place finish. For Kellogg, a junior and Beyer, a sophomore, this will be their first trip to Hershey.
“We talked to the kids this week about the importance of being mentally tough and running for your team. They performed well on Saturday,” said Eisenhower coach Darlene Beach. “Ethan Kellogg was injured at the beginning of the season. He didn’t run much for a couple of weeks and had to stay out of some races. He gradually worked his way back, getting stronger every meet. We’re very proud of Ethan and excited for him going to states.”
Warren freshman Shyann Rulander finished 14th overall, narrowly missing a trip to states herself. Nevertheless, it was a great first run at districts. As a team, the Warren girls finished third in the Class 2A race, narrowly missing qualifying their entire team (the top two teams go). Those honors went to team champion Harbor Creek and second-place General McLane. Freshman Lauren Dolan was 44th for the Lady Dragons.
Kellogg led a strong run for the Eisenhower boys, as they finished sixth in the 1A team standings. Alex Hummel finished 23rd and Tyson Morrison 37th and Jacob Williams 52nd.
“Alex Hummel has had a great season,” Beach said. “He just missed qualifying for states by six places. Tyson, Jacob, Jonathan (Abadie), Michael (Abadie) and Matthew (Cathcart) all ran season-best times.”
For the Warren boys, Devon Navaroli had a strong finish to his senior season with a 19th place finish, while sophomore Graham Carr was 25th.
For Youngsville, sophomore Julia Bocjazko capped her strong season with a 29th place finish, while Koben Smith led the YHS boys, coming in 81st.
For the Eisenhower girls, Madison Cathcart was 57th, Chloe Lasecki 66th and Madison Cathcart 77th.
“Leading the girls team were Madison Cathcart and Chloe Lasecki,” noted Beach.
“Senior captain Lindsay Finch had her fastest time of the season, as did Gracie Anthony, Brooke Andersen and Julia Haight. Exchange student Angeles Jareno was a great addition to our team this year.”
