Wolverines set to face off with Red Raiders

The Sheffield Wolverines go hunting for their first victory of the season this afternoon when they welcome the Cameron County Red Raiders to town for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff on Wolverine Mountain.

Both teams come into the contest with a record of winless, Sheffield at 0-4 and Cameron County 0-3, but the Wolverine offense is humming after scoring 28 points against unbeaten Redbank Valley last week.

The Wolverines struggled through the air but found tremendous success in the passing game courtesy of quarterbacks Aujamier Slappy-Washington and Walker Kyler. Slappy-Washington completed 12-of-26 passes for 216 yards and a pair of scores, while Kyler also tossed a pair of touchdowns and was 4-for-4 for 85 yards.

Mirahn Price had a huge game receiving, with seven receptions for 191 yards and two scores. Caden Smead also collected a pair of touchdown receptions, part of a 5-catch, 81-yard effort.

The figure to find some success against the Red Raiders, who allowed 49 points in a loss to Keystone last week.

Cameron County will look to move the ball on the ground, and they are led in that department by Nick Peters, who scored on a 60-yard run in the Keystone game last week. Dylan Baney also had 64 yards rushing in the contest.

Ebon Jackson will be under center, and he completed three passes last week.

The two teams played a tight game last year, with the Red Raiders earning a hard-fought 6-0 win on their home turf, with the Wolverines looking to return the favor this time around.
