Wolverines nearly pull off victory
Sheffield nearly had its first win since 2016, but the Wolverines will have to wait another week after a heartbreaking 20-14 loss to Union/A-C Valley.
Walker Kyler threw a pair of first-half touchdown passes – one each to Mirahn Price and Jihad Bennett. Bennett’s touchdown was electric, as he made several moves along the way.
The Falcon-Knights (1-1) , who have found success with their co-op, were down 14-8 at halftime but tied the game at 14 by the end of the third quarter.
Then, midway through the fourth quarter, Luke Bowser found Tony Thompson with a 3-yard touchdown pass to give Union/A-C Valley the lead for good, 20-14.
Bowser rushed for a pair of scores and throwing for the touchdown. He ran nine times for 59 yards and was 8 of 21 passing for 82 yards but did throw two interceptions.
The 14 points for Sheffield were their most since a 30-29 setback to Cameron County on Oct. 20, 2017.
The Wolverines (0-2) look to break into the win column when they host Coudersport on Saturday.
