HARBOR CREEK, Pa. – Warren volleyball fell in its Region 6 opener to Harbor Creek, 3-1 – 25-22, 21-25, 25-19, 25-22.

“It’s not the outcome we were looking for, but it was a good early test against a solid Harbor Creek team,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan. “We definitely need to serve and pass better as a team and clean up some of the errors, but the effort was there and we played good defense and fought for every point, so we’re on the right track going forward.”

Leading the Lady Dragons were Lex Nyquist (30 assists, 11 digs, 1 ace), Jordan Sitler (10 kills, 3 blocks), Katie Madigan (18 digs), Grace Wortman (7 kills, 12 digs, 3 blocks), Olivia English (7 kills), Meredith Morrison (2 aces), Hannah Shattuck (3 kills, 10 digs, 2 blocks) and Halee Mineweaser (3 digs, 2 kills, 1 ace).

“Our middles, Olivia English and Jordan Sitler, did a nice job at the net and Katie, Lex and Grace led the defense. Meredith Morrison has a nice night behind the service line,” added Dolan.

The JV won an exciting match in two sets, 29-27, 25-18.

Cara Munksgard (4 kills), Ellee Irwin (2 kills), Carly Beers (2 aces, 1 block), Morrison (7 digs), Jayna Baldensperger (3 digs, 2 blocks) and Kirsten Johnson (1 kill, 1 block) paced Warren.

The Lady Dragons return to action on Thursday with another tough match, at Maplewood.

UNION CITY 3, EISENHOWER 0

Eisenhower fell to Union City 10-25, 16-25 and 15-25 in their first match of the 2019 season.

“The first game we looked really tentative and got down 10 before we knew what happened,” said Eisenhower coach Scott Olson. “The girls played well after that. The second game we were right in it, 15-12, and they went on a nice run.”

The Lady Knights were down two starters tonight, but coach Olson was pleased with how his group responded.

“They’re (Union City) a good team. Our girls were a little nervous ,but the girls that stepped in played wonderfully. I’m really pleased and looking forward to seeing what this team can do.”

Leading Eisenhower were Currie Hultman (4 kills, 1 ace, 7 digs), Lilly Smyth (2 kills), Hannah Newcamp (6 digs), Rayna Hultman (7 assists) and Bridgette Gourley (1 ace).

The JV squad also fell by scores of 8-25 and 11-25.

The Lady Knights return to action on Thursday at county rival Youngsville.

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 3, TIDIOUTE 0

Tidioute fell to Cambridge Springs in three sets, 12-25, 11-25, 9-25.

Leading Tidioute were Kelsey Nuttal (1 ace, 1 kill, 1 dig), Shelby Proctor (1 ace, 1 kill, 1 assists), Nakiesha Krouse (1 ace, 1 kill, 1 dig), Angelina Sabella (1 ace, 1 assist, 1 digs) and Jenna Hunt (1 ace, 1 dig).

The JV squad also fell to Cambridge Springs (10-25, 13-25).

Julia Blake (1 kill) and Aspen Fors (1 ace, 2 assists) paced Tidioute.

The Lady Bulldogs return to action on Friday against Venango Catholic.

SAEGERTOWN 3, YOUNGSVILLE 0

Youngsville fell to Saegertown in three sets by scores of 25-7, 25-5 and 25-12. The JV team lost a 2-0 decision.
