St. Marys sweeps Warren

For the second time this season, reigning District 9 tennis champion St. Marys swept Warren.

The Dutch held serve on their home court earlier in the year, Wednesday, they defeated the Dragons at Betts Park. St. Marys nearly pulled off a clean sweep as every match was 6-0, 6-0, except second doubles.

“The girls defined who they were today by the level of intensity and fight they had,” Warren coach John Parroccini said. “All of the matches took nearly an hour. This showed us that the girls made St. Marys earn every point. We were very proud of the effort they showed.”

Sam Hayes defeated Maddie Rogers at first singles, while Davan Lion bested Kaity McCracken at second and Lilis Lion topped Sydnie Cochran at third.

Brooke Henry and Lydia Ehresberger took care of business in first doubles against Madalyn Perry and Kamryn Moore.

At second doubles, Warren’s Amanda Gray and Rylie Yeager pushed Rachel Flemming and Breanna Marconi, but ultimately fell, 6-3, 6-1.

“Our doubles teams showed their character today by pushing St. Marys every step of the way,” Warren assistant coach Kimberleigh Parroccini said.

Warren’s Sophie Olson and Sydney Govoni beat Kaitlyn Stauffer and June Chen, 6-4, in exhibition play.

“Every match Sophie and Sydney look stronger and stronger,” Kimberleigh Parroccini said. “They will definitely be challenging for a varsity spot next year.”

In other exhibition play, Corinn Gern and Rylie Nuhfer fell to Mya Klasier and Emma Giauazzi, 6-0, while Ashley Plank and Amanda Gay defeated Peyton Morrison and Jackie Cumberland, 6-0, and Jackie Peterson and Sydney Anderson defeated Katie Moore and Isabella Shingler, 6-2.

Warren travels to McDowell today.

The Lady Dragons will wrap up the regular season next week with a match against Erie Tuesday and a trip to Hermitage for the Tri-County Tournament Wednesday.
