Lady Eagles continue winning ways

Kenzie Olewine and the Youngsville Lady Eagles earned a 3-1 win over Tidioute on Thursday.

Despite dropping a marathon third set, the Youngsville volleyball team won their third consecutive match, 25-16, 25-18, 32-34, 25-23 over county rival Tidioute.

In fact, that makes it five wins in their last six times on the court.

“I’m very proud of all the work the girls are doing,” said Youngsville coach Vicky Montecalvo. “They aren’t giving up and it shows.”

The Lady Eagles moved Kenzie Olewine to setter for this match. With Jena Wilson out for the season, Amber Evans had moved to the setter role, but Montecalvo explained the reason for the switch.

“Amber’s a strong hitter and she really wants to hit,” she said. “It worked out really well. She (Kenzie) did such a good job.”

Kam Weissinger led the offensive attack with ten kills, while Andrea Sveda (9 kills) and Mallory Sherrard (7 digs) also played strong roles in the victory.

Leading Tidioute were Kelsey Nuttall (2 aces, 4 kills, 2 assists, 10 digs), Shelby Proctor (6 aces, 4 kills, 10 digs), Jenna Hunt (3 kills, 1 block, 5 digs), Angelina Sabella (1 ace, 7 kills, 16 digs), Aspen Fors (11 assists, 3 digs) and Andreya Curtin (1 assist) .

Youngsville also won the JV match 25-14, 20-25, 15-6.

Julia Blake (1 ace, 1 dig), Aspen Fors (1 kill, 2 assist, 1 dig), Natalie Valentine (1 dig), Andreya Curtin (1 kill, 1 assist), Codie Spittler ( 1 assist), Lexis Drukenbrod (5 digs), Jolynn Durlin (1 dig) and Skyla Daelhousen (1 ace, 3 kills, 2 digs) paced Tidioute.
