Lady Dragons cruise past North East
It didn’t take long for the Lady Dragons to make it known they are on a mission this season.
Saturday’s season-opening matchup versus North East went exactly as planned according to 4th-year coach Jeremy Bickling. “The girls were anxious to get the season rolling. Once they burned off some nervous energy, they went to work and executed at the level we expected. ”
Went to work they did. Junior forward Kyleigh Wilson showed she was ready for the 2019 season by scoring three goals in rapid succession in the first half. The first two coming off of precision passes from senior midfielder MJ Fadale.
“We moved Ky to forward in the offseason and she’s really excelled at that position,” Bickling said. “She’s always been one of the most dynamic players on the field, but she’s embraced learning how to play the position and breaking down defenders. MJ gave her 2 really great passes to set up her goals. ”
The Lady Dragon forward finished off her hat trick with her third goal coming from an assist by freshman Georgie Bickling.
The offense would continue to test the North East keeper and defense by pouring on shot after shot. Sawyer Mohney and Kyra Wotorson both coming close on several shots.
Warren’s defense showed they were just as ready for the season by rarely letting the Lady Grape pickers past midfield. The Lady Dragon defense snuffed out all of North East’s attacks an help them to zero shots on goal for the match.
Warren would take a comfortable 3 -0 lead into half time. “We were very pleased with the defense, Bickling said. “They made it look easy.
We have 4 seniors (Emily Egger, Aubrianna Navarolli, Brooklynn Neurieter, and Jessica Susz ) that anchor our defense and lead the way today. We will count on them all season to help keep things calm and under control. Lennon (Dailey )looked sharp as well. ”
The Lady Dragon’s jumped right back into their assault on the Lady Picker goal in the second half. Freshman Georgie Bickling and Ella Ordiway may have been playing in their high school games respectively, but both showed they were ready to contribute.
Bickling got the 4th goal of the game (and first high school career) off of an assist from Brooklynn Neurieter. “Brook played a beautiful ball. She and MJ were constantly looking to feed our attack anytime they saw an opportunity. ”
Ordiway recorded her first assist with a corner kick the Jessica Susz finished off by heading it into the goal. “Ella gave a really good service for our aerial attack to finish. Jess has become a serious threat on any corner kick opportunity,” Bickling added. “She and Ky have really made it their job to go up for the ball on corner kicks.”
Warren would finish the day with 37 shots on goal. The Lady Dragons don’t get long to enjoy their win as D-10 powerhouse McDowell comes to town on Tuesday for a region 6 matchup. Varsity play starts at 5 with JV to follow.
In the junior varsity match, The Lady Dragons tied 1-1. Alyssa Anderson had the lone goal for Warren.
