Lady Dragon netters blanked

Warren girls tennis put up a strong fight against its long time rival Tuesday, but dropped a 5-0 decision to Fairview at Betts Park.

Both the top singles and doubles matches were hotly contested affairs, but the Lady Dragons couldn’t pull out the win in either. Almost every exhibition match could have gone either way as well.

The Tigers’ Trinity Fox topped Maddie Rogers, 6-2, 6-2, in a marathon at first singles.

“The score was not indicative of the level of play from both girls,” Warren coach John Parroccini said. “This match took nearly two hours and unfortunately, Maddie simply ran out of time. This was one of her best matches of the season, but Trinity was too much today.”

Aubra Carnes and Sara DeBello each won by 6-0, 6-0 scores over Kaity McCracken and Megan McGuiness at second and third singles, respectively.

“Fairview is known for their consistent baseline attack and today was no different,” said Parroccini.

Warren’s top doubles team of Madalynn Perry and Kamryn Moore lost a first-set tiebreaker, then dropped the second set, 6-1.

“Madalyn and Kamryn are playing better every match,” Warren assistant coach Kimberleigh Parroccini said. “They just ran out of gas after giving it their all in the tiebreaker.”

Fairview’s Emma Kisiel and Grace Platz beat Sydnie Cochran and Amanday Gray, 6-2,6-1, at second doubles to complete the sweep.

“This was the first opportunity for this team to play together and it gave the coaches a lot of ideas for the future,” Kimberleigh Parroccini said.

In exhibition action, Warren’s Sophie Olson and Rylie Yeager topped Alyssa Rohods and Mikalela Nagle, 6-2. Fairview’s Nicole Oberle and Annamarie Hubusta defeated Corrin Gern and Rylee Nuhfer, 6-1. Sydney Anderson and Sydney Giovoni defeated Mia Laguidara and Alexa Toffel, 6-1, Jackie Peterson and Katie Moore defeated Lydia Soltis and Breanna Empy 7-5, Peyton Morrison and Jackie Cumberland fell to Emma Baine and Carolyn Burns 6-0 and Isabella Shingler and Ashley Plank fell to Lydia Soltis and Breanna Empy, 6-4.

“Kimberleigh and I take the exhibition matches very seriously since it gives us a barometer of what the future Dragon teams will look like,” John Parroccini said. “Exhibition play gives our new players vital match experience that they can use when they move up the ranks to varsity.”

The Lady Dragons are off until Tuesday when they host division leader McDowell.
