Dragons roll past Franklin

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Caleb Lindell had a hat trick and Ryon Flatt scored a pair of goals to lead the Warren boys soccer team to a 7-1 win at Franklin Thursday.

The Dragons scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of the match and every player saw time on the pitch. Ian Darling and Alex Ferry split time in goal.

“We set the tone early,” Warren coach Denny Flatt said. “Our offensive chemistry is improving. We’re still missing some key players with injury, but others are stepping up and playing well.”

Ryon Flatt got the scoring started at 4:45 with an assist from Zane Anderson. JT Blum doubled the lead off a deflection at 10:10. Tyler Gustafson found Lindell with a long pass at 13:47. Lindell was fouled and converted the penalty kick to put Warren (3-1 overall, 2-0 Region 5) up 3-0.

Ten minutes later, Ryon Flatt gave a throw-in to Anderson. Anderson passed it to Lindell who buried the shot for the fourth goal. Just before the 30th minute, Lindell stole a pass and sent the ball to Corbin Reinard for the fifth goal of the half.

Anderson and Ryon Flatt teamed up again at 53:10 and Lindell ended the Dragons onslaught off an assist from Ethan Best at 72:00.

“Even though we scored less in the second half, our ball movement was better,” Denny Flatt said. “I was happy with the way we moved the ball in the second half.”

Darling, Gustafson and Sean Duckett combined for 43 tackles from the back line. John Page had a strong game at the defensive midfield as well.

“John Page played really well,” Denny Flatt said. “He really controlled the game in the midfield defensively and created a lot of opportunities for the offense.”

Warren will have a tough stretch next week with three matches in six days. They start at Slippery Rock Monday, host Bradford Wednesday, then travel to Corry Saturday. Slippery Rock, Warren and Bradford finished 1-2-3 in the region last season.

“It’s going to get tough the next few games,” Denny Flatt said. “It’s going to be a good test.”
