Dragons make quick work of visiting Oil City on Senior Night
The Warren boys soccer team celebrated Senior Night in grand fashion, having their way in an 11-1 victory over Oil City at War Memorial Field.
Caleb Lindell, Damon Navaroli, Tyler Gustafson, Ryon Flatt and Alex Nebinski were honored at halftime, as the Dragons raced out to a 7-0 lead after the first 40 minutes.
“The seniors enjoyed their night,” said Warren coach Denny Flatt. “As a coach, it’s nice to celebrate them and all they’ve done.”
Lindell scored four goals and had a hand in a fifth, which turned out to be an own goal to get the scoring started, while Flatt and Gustafson also found the back of the net.
Lindell scored in the 11th minute to make it 2-0 and assisted on Flatt and Wes Kiehl’s goals minutes apart to make it 4-0 less than 14 minutes into the contest. Lindell made it 5-0 midway through the first half and Kiehl got the second of his three goals moments later on an assist from Flatt. Gustafson, who normally is a standout defender, made it 7-0 in the 38th minute.
“We were able to get everybody in and work on a few things,” coach Flatt said. “Lots of kids got to play different positions.”
Lindell scored a pair of goals in the opening 12 minutes of the second half and assisted on Navaroli’s goal that made it 10-0.
Kiehl finished off the Dragon (5-3 overall, 2-2 Region 5) in the 54th minute.
“Oil City played hard; they never quit,” coach Flatt said.
The Dragons look to make it three-straight wins when they travel to Meadville on Thursday.
