Dragon netters sweep Erie High

The Warren girls tennis team picked up its second win of the season Thursday with a 5-0 sweep of Erie at Betts Park.

The Lady Dragons also swept all the exhibition matches for the team’s first clean sweep of the year.

Warren’s Maddie Rogers topped Sydney Edwards, 6-1, 6-0, at first singles.

“This was a much-deserved win by Maddie,” Warren coach John Parroccini said. “She is one of the hardest working players on the roster and all of her work paid off today.”

Megan McGuinness bested Mikala Vahey, 6-1, 6-0, at second singles and Kaity McCracken returned to the lineup with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Grace Lyle at third singles.

“Megan came ready to play from the first serve and never let up,” Warren assistant coach Kimberleigh Parroccini said. “Kaity was focused and relentless, as the score shows.”

Madalynn Perry and Kamryn Moore defeated Eliza Claudio and Maddie DiSanza, 7-6 (9-7), 6-1, at first doubles.

“Madalynn and Kamryn got off to a slow start, but really turned up their game in the second set for the victory,” John Parroccini said.

At second doubles, Sydney Giovoni and Amanda Gray-playing in just their second match as a team-beat Kailyn Fedak and April Paw, 6-3, 6-1.

“This team is so much fun to watch,” Kimberleigh Parroccini said. “You can clearly see that they are enjoying themselves.”

At exhibition singles, Sydnie Cochran defeated Emma Mooney, 6-0.

“It was good to see Sydnie get a much deserved win today,” John Parroccini said.

Sydney Anderson and Jackie Peterson topped Elyse Johnson and Jalaizha Preston, 6-0, in exhibition doubles. In other exhibition doubles action, Rylie Yeager and Sophie Olson defeated Ivy Arce and Anusha rai, 6-3, Corinn Gern and Ryle Nuhfer beat Hydeia Carson and Serena Davis, 6-3, Ashley Plank and Amanda Gray bested Elyse Johnson and Ivy Arce, 6-3 and Katie Moore and Isabella Shingler got past Jackie Reyes and Maryann Makhozmi, 7-5.

“It is so exciting watching the newer players earn a victory,” John Parroccini said. “Every young woman on this team works very hard and all of their wins today are a product of their hard work.”

Warren travels to Villa Maria Monday and hosts Hickory Tuesday.
