Warren tennis tops Conneaut
The Warren girls tennis team served up its first win of the season, 4-1, over Conneaut at Betts Park Friday.
The Dragons went 2-1 in singles matches and swept the doubles action. Several Dragons picked up their first wins of the season as well.
The Eagles picked up their lone win at first singles with Katie Banish topping Maddie Rogers, 7-5, 6-2.
“Katie played a very defensive game and Maddie tried every trick in the book to break her down, but was unable to today,” Warren coach John Parroccini said.
The Dragons got their first singles win of the season at second singles. Kaity McCracken won a 3-set nailbiter, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3, over Jade Ballard.
“Kaity took an early lead, but stumbled in the second set only to kick into another gear and take the third set,” Warren assistant coach Kimberleigh Parroccini said. “She showed great perseverance and strength today.”
Megan McGuinness picked up her first win of the season with a victory over Madeline Mair, 7-6(7-2), 6-2, at third singles.
“Megan had an early lead in the first set, but Madeline charged back. Megan did an excellent job closing the match out in straight sets,” John Parroccini said.
At first doubles, Kamryn Moore and Madalyn Perry, playing in just their third match together, grabbed their first win, 6-1, 6-3, over Emily Falcone and Lizzy Young.
“We are expecting to see some excellent tennis from them this year,” Kimberleigh Parroccini said.
Rylie Nuhfer and Sydney Cochran also got their first win of the season, 6-1, 6-1, over Karlie Mickle and Sam Wright at second doubles.
“This team continues to impress me,” John Parroccini said. “Sydney was seeing the ball so much better today and Rylie was dominant from the baseline.”
In exhibition action, Corrin Gern and Sydney Anderson defeated McKenns Brown and Lindsay Fritzche, 8-1, while Sophie Olson and Amanda Gray defeated teammates Jackie Peterson and Katie Moore, 6-2, and Rylie Yeager and Isabella Shingler defeated Peyton Morrison and Jackie Cumberland, 6-0.
Warren hits the road this week with matches at Villa Maria Tuesday and Hickory Thursday.
