Regulators earn walk-off win in home opener

JAMESTOWN, NY – Evan Pirtz (Fredonia) delivered a 2-run, walk-off triple to lift the Southern Tier Regulators to a 9-8 win over the Full Circuit Power in their home opener at Diethrick Park on Wednesday evening.

The Regulators (4-1-1), led 7-3 going into the eighth inning, but the Power rallied for five runs in the inning, capped by an RBI single off the bat of Nick Emmick.

After Aidan Morrison was retired via flyout, Nick Crandall (Olean) doubled and Anthony Gullo (Fredonia) walked, setting the stage for Pirtz’s heroics.

The Regulators led 7-1 after six innings before needing the late really for the win.

The Warren trio of Morrison, Austyn Cummings and Lance Baldensperger swung the bats well once again. Morrison was 2-for-4 with two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base, while Cummings was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs and Baldensperger 1-for-3 with a run.

The Regulators got on the board in the second inning, courtesy of Aaron Hair’s (Frewsburg) 2-run triple that brought in Morrison and Trey Swartz (Fredonia), who both singled.

Jacob Payne and Baldensperger singled to lead off the third, and were brought in on two more base hits off the bat of Nathan Engdahl (Chautauqua Lake) and Cummings.

Crandall, who had a big day at the plate, tripled with two outs to bring in the fifth run.

In the sixth inning, Morrison’s 2-run single brought in Cummings and Engdahl to make it 7-1.

Engdahl had three hits and Morrison, Cummings and Crandall two each.

Lucas Willink (Clymer Central) got the start on the mound and went five innings, allowing one run on five hits with one strikeout and no walks allowed.

The Regulators return to action this Friday through Sunday at Slippery Rock University.
