Sheffield rally falls short

TIONESTA, Pa. – Trailing by as many as nine runs, the Sheffield Lady Wolverines softball team never panicked, nearly pulling off a tremendous comeback.

Sheffield went into the top of the seventh trailing 17-8, but scored six runs and had the tying run at the plate, but Forest pitcher Jasmine Ginnery was able to get a strikeout to end the game.

The Lady Wolverines were able to take advantage of three Forest miscues in the rally, and three consecutive hits by Tori Childress, Marissa Grubbs and Emily Leichtenberger got them within three.

That trio combined for six hits, three RBI and six runs scored.

Cleanup hitter Ashley Frederick also had a big day, with three hits and a pair of runs batted in.

On the mound, Marissa Grubbs struck out six.
