Lady Knights keep rolling with win over Iroquois

ERIE, Pa. – Eisenhower broke out the bats early en route to its fourth win in five games, 12-3, in six innings, at Iroquois Thursday.

The Lady Knights (5-10 overall, 3-4 Region 2) used a 6-run second inning to help avenge a 5-2 loss to the Lady Braves (5-12, 3-4) earlier this season. Alexis Courtney, Sam Gourley and Phoebe Tower each had three hits, with Tower driving in three, Gourley a pair of RBI and Courtney scoring twice.

“They played extremely well all the way around,” Eisenhower coach Rich Pascuzzi said.

The big second inning almost didn’t happen. Three batters in, the game was delayed 30 minutes for lightning. The threat passed and Eisenhower went to work.

“It was nice to see the girls really jump on them in the beginning of the game instead of waiting to get the bats going,” Eisenhower assistant coach Amber Fox said.

In addition to the hits, Courtney gave up just three runs on six hits over six innings with three strikeouts.

All told, Eisenhower pounded out 19 hits in the game. Kayla Greene, Shelby Kuzminski, Lexi Head and Brittany Smith each had two hits. Smith scored three times and drove in two, Head scored twice and Kuzminski had two RBI.

The Lady Knights head east Monday for a matchup at Sheffield.
