Lady Knights come up just short vs. Iroquois

Eisenhower’s Alex Pascuzzi rips a base hit during the fourth inning of Wednesday’s game against Iroquois at Werner Park. She came around to score on Phoebe Tower’s 2-RBI double.

The Eisenhower softball team came very close to earning its second win of the season, but a 4-run third inning lifted visiting Iroquois to a 5-2 victory instead.

With the game scoreless in the top of the third, Iroquois needed just two hits to score its four runs, taking advantage of three Eisenhower errors.

Pitcher Alexis Courtney stayed poised, allowing just one run the rest of the way, as the Lady Knights (1-8 overall, 1-3 Region 2) attempted to come back.

In the fourth inning, the Lady Knights staged a 2-out rally to cut the deficit in half.

Shelby Kuzminski was hit by a Sarah Kegerreis pitch to lead off the frame, and with one out, Alex Pascuzzi singled to put runners on first and second. The next batter, Zoie Olsen, reached on an error, and Kuzminski attempted to score on the play, but was cut down on a strong throw.

Eisenhower second baseman Maddie Fetzeck fires to first for an out during Wednesday's game.

Phoebe Tower made sure the Lady Knights came away with some runs, however, ripping a double into the right-centerfield gap, nearly over the fence for a home run and bringing in Pascuzzi and Olson to make it a 2-run game.

Kayla Greene singled in both the fifth and seventh innings, part of a three-hit day for the sophomore, but each time Kegerreis was able to work her way out of trouble.

Lexi Head entered the game in the fifth inning and also had a hit for the Lady Knights. On the mound, Courtney allowed just one earned run in her seven innings of work.

Kegerreis struck out seven for Iroquois (3-9, 2-3).

Eisenhower looks to pick up their second win when they travel to county rival Youngsville on Friday.
