Lady Dragons topple Olean at St. Bonaventure

OLEAN, NY – Warren had a nice opportunity to play on the turf at St. Bonaventure University Friday, and also had a nice game, beating Olean, 5-1, in the cross-state contest.

Ellie Lobdell, as she often has, got the offense going to the tune of a two-run homer, and the Dragons hit for power all game with five extra-base hits.

Olean kept it close by throwing out two base runners at the plate but five runs were enough for Lobdell, who struck out 11, allowing one seventh-inning run.

“We were aggressive, and I’m proud of them for that,” said Warren coach Jon Sitler. “Olean has a nice program, and it was fun to play on the turf. Gracie Wood, Grace Wortman and Lex Nyquist had nice defensive efforts, and Kiersten Hoffman continues to get better working at catcher with Lobdell.

“Kiersten has grown into a leader and means a lot to this team,” said Sitler. “We also need Grace in the lineup, and she played her first varsity game in right field flawlessly.”

Nyquist and Hoffman had three hits each, and Celia Chase, Wood and Kelsey Stuart had two hits and key RBIs each.

“Like coach Chet Munksgard preaches, this is Dragon softball. Pitching, defense and timely hitting,” said Sitler. “Add in the little things that Julia Lobdell does to move runners around and the spark Katie (Madigan) gives us in the field and we are fun to watch.”

Lobdell’s blast gave Warren a 2-0 lead and it was her seventh of the season.

Warren finishes its region schedule on Monday at General McLane.
