Lady Dragons rout Region 7 rival General McLane

Warren’s Celia Chase smiles as she rounds third and prepares to high-five coach Jon Sitler following a 2-run homerun in the third inning of a game against General McLane at Legion Field, Wednesday, May 1, 2019. The opposite field shot was part of an 8-run inning for the Dragons, who went on to top the Lancers, 15-0, in four innings.
An 8-run third inning broke the game open and Warren softball plated five more in the fourth to secure a 15-0, four-inning Region 7 win over General McLane Wednesday.
Ellie Lobdell and Celia Chase each hit 2-run home runs in the game, and Lobdell threw a no-hitter in the shutout victory.
Warren struck early.
Lex Nyquist led off with a sharp single to right and, two outs later, Lobdell brought her in with a shot over the right-centerfield fence to put the Dragons (9-1 overall, 3-0 Region 7) up 2-0.
The Dragons threatened to add to their lead in the second. Gracie Wood hit a leadoff double and Kelsey Stuart followed with a single. One out later, Alex Neureiter hit a ground out to short. Wood tried to score on the play, but Lancers (7-3, 2-1) first baseman Haley Andrzejewski fired home in time to get Wood and end the inning.

Warren got rolling in the third.
Nyquist hit a leadoff single and moved to second on a passed ball. Julia Lobdell hit a grounder to third, but Samantha Herberg’s throw sailed over Andrzejewski’s head at first. Nyquist scored on the play and Julia Lobdell moved to second. Kiersten Hoffman roped a RBI double to the fence in right-center and Ellie Lobdell followed with a RBI double of her own to make it 5-0. Chase stepped in and launched an opposite-field shot to right that put Warren up 7-0.
Wood and Stuart followed with back-to-back singles. Alix Lytle reached on a fielder’s choice and, one out later, Nyquist singled in Wood. Julia Lobdell closed out the scoring for the inning with a 2-run single.
All told, the Dragons scored eight runs on eight hits in the inning.
Warren put the game away in the fourth.

Ellie Lobdell launched a pair of home runs in Warren's win over Corry on Thursday.
Chase and Wood hit consecutive one-out singles and Chase scored when Stuart reached on an error. Lytle singled to load the bases. With two away, Nyquist ripped a shot down the left field line. The ball skipped past left fielder Josey Pencille and to the fence. The miscue gave Nyquist just enough time to race around the bases and score the decisive 15th run.
“Our offense starts with Lex (Nyquist) at the top and when she finds a way to get on base, things start to happen,” said Warren coach Jon Sitler. “From there, one through eight in the lineup had at least one hit each. It was nice to see the bats warm up a little with the weather.”
Ellie Lobdell was dominant on the mound again with another no-hitter. She allowed just two walks in four shutout innings. She walked two and struck out seven. She was also 2-3 at the plate with a run scored and three RBI.
“Ellie did what Ellie does, and that’s not to understate her performance,” said Sitler. “She always gives us a chance to win. She has also got us going with her bat more than a few times this season.
“All in all, this is Dragon softball,” said Sitler. “We were aggressive at the plate, on the bases, and in the field, and we pitched and caught well. Kiersten Hoffman had another nice game behind the plate.”

Warren's Alex Neureiter ducks out of the way of a pitch during a game against General McLane at Legion Field, Wednesday, May 1, 2019. The Dragons beat the Lancers, 15-0, in four innings.
Nyquist had four hits and Wood three hits, with Chase and Stuart two each. Nyquist scored four times and drove in three, Chase scored twice and had two RBI and Wood scored twice.
Warren can take full control of the Region today if the Dragons win at Harbor Creek.
Stuart struck out 16 in a 6-2 junior varsity win. Stuart also scored three times offensively. Neureiter had two extra-base hits, and Neureiter and Lytle had three RBI each. Ellie Irwin added a double in the win.
