Knights wrap up season at districts

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Lydia Giannini led a strong day for Eisenhower at the District 10 Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Slippery Rock University.

The senior, who will compete next season for Allegheny College, broke the school record in the shot put with a throw of 34’9.24″, besting the mark of Jenn Knechtel in 2001.

Along with Giannini, Thomas Baran set a personal best in the pole vault, clearing 12-feet for a fourth-place finish. Also, Nate Holt finished fifth in the 300 hurdles, clocking in at 42.49.

For the girls, the 4×400 relay team of Patricia Bortz, Hope Hefright, Rachel Frederick and Aleea Giese finished eighth with a time of 4:28.53, knocking nine seconds off their previous best time.

Currie Hultman finished 10th in the javelin with a throw of 102’8″, just missing out on a trip to the finals.

Delaney Nizzi finished 12th in the triple jump (31’7.5“) and 18th in the long jump (12’11.25), Giese was 15th in the 400 (1:05.9), Giannini 11th in the discus (80’1”), Emiley Wheeler 17th in the triple jump (30’9.5″) and the 4×800 relay team of Giese, Tess Morningstar, Nataly Clark and Frederick 13th (11:27.99).

The boys 4×800 relay team, consisting of Alex Hummell, Cody Anthony, Ethan Kellogg and Tyson Morrison was 9th in 8:50.52, taking 15 seconds off their previous best time.

In addition, Holt was 11th in the 100 (11.92), Joey Bauer 16th in the discus (114’8“) and shot put (38’3.75”), Cyrus Hazeltine 16th in the high jump and the 4×100 relay team of Caleb Robinault, Carter Knapp, Alex Hummell and Holt 11th (47.14).

“I was proud of the efforts of our athletes this season,” said Eisenhower coach Darlene Beach. “For the underclassmen, they gained the experience of competing at the District level. For our seniors, it was the last time competing as an Eisenhower Knight. The athletes on both the boys and girls team have been a great group to coach this year. Thank you to all our seniors who have competed and supported the Eisenhower track and field program.”
