YHS, Ike baseball fall
COCHRANTON, Pa. – Garrett Long, Alex McDonough, Alex McKay and Curtis Freyermuth drove in two runs each as Cochranton rolled to a 16-0 win over Youngsville on Tuesday.
That quartet, as well as Brandon Richter, all drove in two runs apiece for the Cardinals (3-0), who took advantage of a few Eagles (1-1) miscues and scored 11 runs in the second inning.
“We made several errors we didn’t make the other day (against Iroquois),” Youngsville coach Kevin Hoover said. “We helped them out and gave them a lot of extra runs. It was a good day on the mound, but our fielders didn’t help our pitchers out.”
Garrett Long (2 innings, 1 hit, 3 strikeouts) and Tanner Fox (1 inning, 1 strikeout) combined to limit Youngsville (1-1) to just one hit in four innings.
“We put the ball in play several times, but they fielded it and threw us out,” Hoover said. “They had good pitching, but we were able to put it in play. They just made plays where we made errors.”
Youngsville must regroup quickly if it wants to get back in the win column. The Eagles head to Werner Park today for a cross-county clash with Eisenhower.
“I’m sure they’ll get up for the game,” Hoover said. “It’s a typical Youngsville-Eisenhower game. It’s easy for the guys to get up for a game like that.”
