Warren County athletes dominate at McDowell Invite

ERIE, Pa. – Despite cold weather conditions for late April, several Warren County athletes dominated at the prestigious McDowell Invitational on Saturday.

Youngsville’s Jake Hogg and Naomi Swartzbaugh, as well as Warren’s Lydia Latimer and Sheffield’s Emily Leichtenberger were all individual event winners, and they along with several others were among the top performers in a loaded field.

Swartzbaugh was the lone athlete to win multiple events, racing to victory in both the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. The school record holder beat Meadville’s Emily Main by the slimmest of margins in the 100s (16.66 to 16.67) and dominated the 300s to the tune of 49.67. Hannah Powers of Bradford was second in 53.23.

Her counterpart for the boys, Hogg, the defending D-10 2A high jump champion, only needed to go 5’10” to take first on this day. What was equally impressive were his efforts in the triple jump and javelin. The sophomore standout is excelling in those events as well, finishing second in the triple jump (40’4 1/4″), bettering his best prelim jump by over two-feet. His toss of 140’9″ in the javelin was good for fourth.

Latimer, along with teammates Kyleigh Wilson, Myah Madril, Naomi Hahn and Kayla Giambrone helped lead the Lady Dragons to a fourth-place finish in the team standings. Latimer, the three-time D-10 3A high jump champion, won that event, clearing 4’10”. She added to her day with a third-place finish in the 400 and eighth place in the long jump and also teamed with Katie Beyer, Bri Ristau and Hahn to take fourth in the 4×400 relay.

Leichtenberger, meanwhile, put on an absolute show. She uncorked a throw of 114’6” in the javelin to win that event, beating out second-place finisher Madison Lesik of Fort LeBoeuf by over four feet. Her throw of 89′ 1/2″ in the discus was good for third and a toss of 30’5″ nabbed her a fifth-place finish in the shot put.

Also for the Warren girls, Wilson showed off her tremendous versatility, taking second in the 200, third in the 100 and fifth in the long jump. In the distance races, the Warren girls once again showed off, with Hahn finishing second in the 1600 and seventh in the 800 and Giambrone third in the 3200 and sixth in the 1600.

Madril, meanwhile, was fourth in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the triple jump.

For the Warren boys, the 4×100 relay team of Kyle Adams, Aiden Sibits, Ben White and Nathan Edwards finished second in 47.26

In addition, Adams was third in the 200 and fourth in the triple jump, while Edwards was fourth in the 100.

Devon Navaroli continued his impressive season with a third-place finish in the 1600 and sixth in the 3200.
