Lady Knights rally to beat Seneca for first victory

Alexis Courtney got the win on the mound for Eisenhower.

After going through some early season growing pains, Tuesday was a real shot in the arm for the Eisenhower softball team.

The Lady Knights scored four runs in the sixth inning, rallying from a 2-run deficit for their first win of the season, 12-11 over Seneca.

“It was a hard-fought win as a team and the girls stuck together,” said Eisenhower coach Rich Pascuzzi. “The girls’ bats came alive today.”

Every player up and down the lineup had a hand in the win, as they pounded out 13 hits, led by three from Lexi Head, including a double. Alexis Courtney and Kayla Greene had two RBIs each, Sam Gourley scored three runs and belted a triple, while Phoebe Tower also tripled.

The Lady Knights closed out the game with a fantastic double play from second baseman Maddie Fetzeck to first baseman Alex Pascuzzi to Tower at the plate.

“The girls played good defense in the top of the seventh to close it out,” noted Pascuzzi.

Every player in the lineup recorded at least one hit. Courteny was the winning pitcher, striking out five.

“The girls have been working really hard and this has been a long time coming,” Pascuzzi added. “It’s nice to see them cheering each other on and battling back.”

In the JV game, Madison Mohney and Zoe Olson shared the pitching duties, while Heather Sydlik had a hit and Morgan Kellogg an RBI fielder’s choice.

“The girls continue to get better and better,” said assistant coach Amber Fox.

The Lady Knights return to action on Saturday at Smethport.
